What Is the Best Strategy for SEO?

What Is the Best Strategy for SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a hard digital marketing approach to master. It’s easy to get lost in the different types of SEO like on-page, off-page, and technical SEO. However, the best SEO strategies and SEO techniques in digital marketing can genuinely make a difference in your organic search rankings and traffic. So which techniques are the best and does SEO even matter in 2023? For starters, we don’t think SEO is going anywhere anytime soon, so let’s look at what you can do to make SEO work for your business.

What Are SEO Techniques in Digital Marketing?

SEO techniques in digital marketing are methods that marketers and content creators use to drive traffic to their websites. Keywords, metadata, backlinks, and content are the most significant SEO techniques used by digital marketers, because of their ability to drive organic traffic to your website.

Implementing High-Value Keywords

Keywords are essential to any SEO strategy and help your business find visibility online. They contain words, phrases, and questions that customers are searching for online. You might see keywords referred to as short-tail and long-tail keywords—long-tail are best to use for H2s. If you want to get organic results, you need to have keywords on your website. Plain and simple. However, this is not to say keyword stuffing is the right approach—because it isn’t. Keyword stuffing creates an unpleasant and unhelpful experience for the reader. High-quality types of SEO keywords are about leading readers and ideal customers to your site without overdoing it. Keywords increase your chances of being found by your target audience that is looking for products or services that meet their needs. Not only that but using tools to measure how effectively your keywords are performing helps your business gain insights into what works and who you’re actually reaching.

Metadata

Metadata is used to help search engines and other systems identify and categorize the content of a web page or other digital asset. The content's title, a brief summary of its subject, and relevant keywords are examples of common metadata used in SEO. Once your website is crawled, it is added to search engine results pages (SERPs) utilizing the web page's metadata. This aids search engines in recognizing the subject matter of your web pages and content to provide searchers with more valuable results.

Backlinks

Backlinks, also known as inbound links, are links that point to a page on your website from other websites. Backlinks are crucial for SEO because they tell search engines that your content is useful and relevant to other websites. Generally speaking, if a website has a significant number of high-quality backlinks pointing to it, search engines will view that material as authoritative and helpful. The website will likely appear higher in SERPs for relevant search queries due to high-quality backlinks.

Content

We always say, “Content is king.” Why is that? While keywords show Google what you’re writing about, helpful content is also important to catch search engines’ and humans’ attention. How often do you search for something online and find blogs filled with unhelpful information? You move on pretty quickly without getting the answers you need. This user behavior shows search engines that the info is unhelpful, so it gets dinged in SEO results. As a business looking to reach customers, you want to not only give answers that actually help, but can place yourself as an authority on a topic. That’s where our Pillar-Based Marketing (PBM) approach comes into play. By writing high-value content and structuring it in a Pillar SEO strategy plan, you can boost your authority and gain significant organic traffic. Businesses can increase their search engine rankings, increase organic website traffic, and eventually increase leads and revenue by putting these strategies into practice.

Is SEO Still Relevant in 2023?

Yes! SEO is as relevant as ever in digital marketing. Will SEO ever go down the drain? We don’t think so. SEO plays an important role in search engine rankings and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Google knows you want the most relevant content when you search online, so optimizing your website for search engines is essential to gaining organic traffic.

Will SEO always be important?

What Is One SEO Trend That Will Dominate in 2023 and Why?

The most effective SEO trend that will give you the best results on SERPs in 2023 is Pillar-Based Marketing. What is PBM? It’s a new approach to marketing from DemandJump that improves rankings and drives a huge increase in organic traffic. PBM includes writing content in a Pillar strategy that contains three main pieces of content: Pillars, Sub-Pillars, and Supporting Blogs. These pieces all work together to form a cohesive, authoritative group of helpful content.

How is PBM structured?

  • As you might have guessed, Pillars are at the top of the PBM strategy as the largest piece of content. They should be 3,000 words long and contain ~20 high-value keywords and phrases. Typically, Pillars are formatted as the end-all-be-all piece of content that contains a wide overview of your chosen topic. We often call them the “Ultimate Guide” which should answer many of the audiences' general questions.
  • When you move to Sub-Pillars you have to get more specific. Not only are Sub-Pillars shorter in length—2,000 words with ~15 keywords—but they focus on a single topic more in-depth than the Pillar. For example, if you write a Pillar about electric guitars, your Sub-Pillar could focus in on the different parts and mechanics of guitars.
  • Finally there are Supporting Blogs, which are the most specific piece of content in the PBM strategy. At only 750 words with 7-8 keywords, Supporting Blogs need to be focused on a very specific question. “What is a guitar pickup used for?” is an example of a question you could answer in a Supporting Blog. This allows you to directly answer the question being asked.

The importance of adopting Pillar-Based Marketing best practices are almost endless. For marketers especially, it can raise your level of influence within your organization. DemandJump's podcast, Page One or Bust!, discusses this topic further. Below is a clip from a previous episode discussing the benefits of PBM.
